that's is awesome. if you could let us know what sort of troubles were encountered during the engine swap, that would be great!

Troubles......

Post by driftday » Sat Sep 10, 2005 11:36 am

Well, there is really no troubles now that we figured the bugs out. The hard part is to find parts from an S13/Z31/SR20 for the transplant.

We did blow an ECU because of a wiring issue, but we quicly found a replacement.

There is a lot of custom work done on the car and it would help a lot if you have access to a welder.

Interior shot with a spin turn knob and Momo leather shift boot.

congratulations naoki, you've made something really cool. also that shift boot looks like it belongs there. very mint.

here are some lame questions:

1. did the shifter end up working without hitting the trim around it?
2. does the Z31 tranny have cable or rod linkage?
2½. which Z31 tranny did you use?
3. can you take a pixx of the pedals for me? i want to see how they line up.

I think I need to answer question 3 first.....

The tranny is from an SR20DET so I am not sure how the Z31 5 speed lines up to the center console.

I did have to trim some of the area around the shifter and I moved the console up a little.

I will take some pics soon.

Thanks,

Naoki

So, how does she handle? Is the whole engine stock? Will you be drifting this car?

Did you ever consider sending it in to a magazine? I know they would write some kind of article on it. It's probably the ONLY on in the nation!

how does she handle? So far, so good. It doesn't feel as crisp as the S13 coupe did. I am getting some slight understeer too.

Is the whole engine stock? Yes, the engine is stock. I hope to get some dyno numbers soon.

Will you be drifting this car? Yes, I think this will be a good test for the parts that I had to custom make. There a few more things I wanted to add before its first event such as gauges and a better exhaust.

Did you ever consider sending it in to a magazine? Yes, but I don't want to draw too much attention to the car yet.

It will be interesting to see how much attention these cars will get in a year or so. Most of us are getting old and we want something nice and fun to play with. I think a lot more people will start looking for these cars instead of an s13 or s14.

These cars are great!

Could just get a photo or two and a mention to start with before going for a feature. Just an idea...

I'll be 32 this year & I don't think I'm old at all. Now, my body is falling apart but I can still convince myself that I'm still young and virile!:D

This my not be the right word about the M30, but I see it as more sophisticated than the Silvia bandwagon. I like the Silvias, but they are simply a step down on the totel pole - not the performance totem pole, but the overall totem pole. With the possibilities that one can have with an M30 (style, comfort, and performance), I would not be surprised to see more of an interest in this car.

Thanks Brandon.

Just an update.

The rears wheels are 17 x 10, +18 offset. I am running a 235/45/17 tire in the rear. I moved the rear wheel to the front now and added a 3mm spacer because 17x9 wheel was rubbing against the coilovers.

I just added a turbo timer and few gauges to keep me informed.

Next up is a tanabe down pipe and muffler. I hope to get this all of the images on our website soon.

welp... I have already started saving up for a m30 now. I was going to buy coilovers for my 86, but now that $ is going to one of these. I need something nice to daily anyways. I was looking for a decent cressida or a sc300 but these cars seem very affordable. couple questions.

1. Does your tach / speedo work? If not I wonder if a s13 cluster would work with little mods.
2. Driveshaft line up with the sr tranny?
3. Did you use the s13 pedels and master cyc?
4. Can the m30 rear end handle decent amounts of pwr?

I was also thinking if any aftermarket exhaust would bolt right up... im sure there are many catbacks for nissans.

I love your car :]
